Imagine YouTube's heuristics matching my personal impression.

I know this is a hot take, but to me, this isn't exactly surprising.

By that I don't even mean that their videos in particular would be AI-generated, in their entirety.

But it has long been low-quality pop-sci content lacking competent editing.

It's been a couple of years since I last watched one. It was the one about "will humanity survive" (happy conclusion: yes, a tiny, lucky minority probably will!).

The last video I halfway enjoyed was one about macrophages or giant viruses, IIRC.

Since then, I've aborted every watch or didn't even click.

I'm not sure if this is worth noting here, but YouTube, at least large German YouTube channels, seem to be plagued by AI-written scripts.

For example, take this video about streaming and Netflix by a publicly funded German YouTube channel:

https://youtube.com/watch?v=Et8PwPITQbw

The video is arguably wrong, or at least, overly assertive in many points ("Netflix won"), leaves out important aspects (e.g. Netflixes evolution from video rental to steaming), and appears to be cheaply produced, following a superficial, AI-generated narrative.

The pictures are cheap (talking, still photos), and the narrative, including the headlines, appears like straight out of Gemini.

I don't know about Kurzgesagt, but the epidemic of this low-quality slop has long left me quit my YT Premium subscription.

The whole "video essay" format has been taken over and broken over the last 3-5 years, and I'm not interested anymore in seeking out the exceptions.

I do still watch YouTube, but it's either old content or direct links, and not much more.
