This thought piece came to mind when I read this headline earlier in the week about pharma companies having enough data to outperform AlphaFold: https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-026-02882-x

Is it fair that mega-corps can horde data and intelligence? Should everything be decentralised or does that create new (worse) challenges?

It's hard to claim that a society is truly democratic if knowledge is not wholly democratised. All that data and intelligence was extracted from the public domain in the first place, anything they develop from it should belong to the public too.

Progress is progress, and it's good to see tech like AI used for good but I don't like the idea of these proprietary models being used in profit making endeavors which is what I assume will happen next.
