RedIWM is a Wayland compositor written in Zig (OpenGL ES) that includes
everything in one process - no waybar, swaylock, mako, or
any of the usual stack needed.
What's built in:
- Compositor + shell (with themes)
- Notifications
- Lock screen
- Night light
- File manager
- Image/PDF viewer (sandboxed)
- Terminal tabs (any app gets tabs)
- 100 IPC commands
- Material design with spring physics
- PipeWire integration (including bass/treble boost)
Performance on my hardware vs labwc + Dank Shell (previous daily driver):
- RedIWM: 1 process, 192MB, 4.6% CPU
- labwc + DMS: 3 processes, 595MB, 14.4% CPU
$ ps aux | grep rediwm
alex 4247 4.6% 192MB rediwm ← everything
vs labwc + DMS:
alex labwc 4.4% 146MB
alex dms 1.8% 91MB
alex qs 8.1% 358MB
Total: 14.4% 595MB
