In a world of phishing attempts - I personally ignored these emails only to discover today that Unity had indeed suspended my account. Considering the many, many thousands of dollars I have spent on Asset Store purchases over the years - and that they are now locked in this account - in addition to the fact that Unity cannot be used without either unsuspending the account (or creating a new one)... I'm concerned as to why Unity went about doing it this way. Was there a data breach? Or is it just plain incompetence on their part to approach the problem this way?
For those of you yet to discover your account has been blocked you can find support information here: https://support.unity.com/hc/en-us/articles/54616227806612-My-Unity-account-was-suspended-after-the-2FA-deadline-How-do-I-get-it-back
For me, it just feels like another nail in the coffin; I'm not using Unity professionally at the moment because of fears like this. (Insert greybeard rant on "things weren't like this when we owned our software and personal computers during the 'good old days'). But wow. If this had happened a few years ago when I was consulting and earning 100% of my income through Unity I would have been shocked.
On top of this I had a reddit post blow up and fill my email box up.
While I'm ranting - I'll end up on a positive note... Deepseek had an outage on Wednesday & users got refunded a weeks worth of token spend - it was delightful to see and to me this is what it looks like when a company is super-focused on retaining their users.
Peace out.
