Washington imposes 'terrorist-grade sanctions' on Francesca Albanese, ICC judges

America has gone very wrong.
adamors•1h ago
It's not that new tho. US Ambassador to the UN under Biden already called Albanese an antisemite. This is just the next logical step in US foreign policy.
nailer•22m ago
That’s likely due to Albanese constantly indulging in bizarre racist conspiracy theories.
splatter9859•1h ago
With Trump at the helm, yes. However; with that being said, the rot and decay has been festering long before Trump came into power.

The issue is that most average Americans don't know how far they have fallen. One day, a great very many of them will wake up to the fact that the illusion of American supremacy was, just like most things in America, nothing more than a marketing ploy and a national "pep rally" -- nothing more.

That's when the resentment will set in. That's when the anger will set in.

Until then, most Americans have tuned out the news and are sleepwalking into whatever dystopian fascist-techno nightmare our billionaire overlord class has prepared for us.

I truly feel like we are witnessing a 180 of the current world order. Some will massively lose, others will gain, but the transition is certainly gonna be very unpleasant for a lot of people. Especially if you live in the West, I'd have prefered to be born in the 1950 and be about to pass away right now than to have to live a few more decades through what's about to come.
adamors•1h ago
The linked Reuters article seems like a much better read https://www.reuters.com/investigations/trumps-war-global-jus...
jmclnx•1h ago
The EU needs to get b*ls, they should impose the same sanctions on US Supreme Court Judges, other ICC members should do the same.

They may be waiting thinking the US might change in Nov 2026, it will not. They are in a Cold War, time to realize it and push back.

nailer•1h ago
Much better article on Albanese from the WSJ:

bediger4000•1h ago
"Washington", or Trump?

It's important for news orgs to name the actor accurately these days. Trump himself is acting outside of constitution, law and accountability. Many officials in his administration are freelancing, doing their own thing outside of law and without discussion or counsel.

hedora•1h ago
Two things:

- US states should either join the ICC, or if that's not legal, cooperate with its ability to serve warrants with precedence over the feds, especially in cases where the warrant is for a federal employee. California could lead this, thanks to the proposition system.

- Apparently this boycott is doing well, but if/when it escalates into a general strike, people reading this message will have much more impact than average Americans. https://www.npr.org/2026/02/07/nx-s1-5704402/boycott-tech-ic...

Think globally, act locally.

The US provided what, 96% of all the weapons that committed the genocide in Gaza ? This is obviously an attempt to silence that history, and also rather obviously promoted by that nation who was the end user of all those weapons.
mpweiher•1h ago
There was an is no genocide in Gaza.

The only thing approaching a genocide was the attempted one on October 7th, by Hamas.

nailer•23m ago
There is no genocide in Gaza. By the civilian to combatant death ratio, the population increase, Israel warning before strikes on facilities, Palestinians being a national identity rather than a race, the disabled children Ms Rachel is pretending were starved to death, the staged photo ops, or any other measure. It’s a conspiracy theory made up by racist people on the internet. Go check out https://x.com/gazawood1 sometime.
roodseuk•10m ago
None of the things listed above are in the legal definition of genocide. (Such as Palestinians not being a race.. So what? So there can not be a genocide qualification? This is irrelevant...)
